Venice

On the lagoon, the art world stays from May until November

The city

Venice in brief.

Festivals have set the Venetian year for centuries and still do. Carnevale fills February with masks, the Biennale opens at the Giardini and the Arsenale in May and stays until late November, and the film festival shifts attention to the Lido for eleven days around the start of September.

A pair of dates belongs to the Venetians themselves. On the third weekend of July a votive bridge opens for the Festa del Redentore and fireworks light St Mark's Basin; on the first Sunday of September the Regata Storica sends rowing crews down the Grand Canal.

Who the city draws

Curators, artists and collectors arrive for the Biennale's opening days in May, and the film industry takes over the Lido in early September, with little overlap between the two.

This page is an editorial guide. FunJetSetter follows the calendar in Venice, and members cannot yet add a trip here or make it their home city. FJS Concierge takes requests for Venice all the same.

In the network's own cities, members see who is there and who is arriving, as each member has chosen to share it. Nothing about people is public.
