Saint-Tropez

Still a village port, filled with classic yachts as September ends

The city

Saint-Tropez in brief.

Underneath the summer reputation there is still a village here, with a harbour, a citadel and the market square of Place des Lices. Painters came early: Paul Signac sailed in aboard his yacht in 1892, and the work that followed hangs in the Musée de l'Annonciade, a sixteenth century chapel on the port.

From spring to early autumn the pace is set at Pampelonne, 4.5 kilometres of sand and beach restaurants in neighbouring Ramatuelle. The Bravades honour the town's patron saint in mid May, and Les Voiles gathers classic and modern yachts in the gulf as September ends.
