The city
London in brief.
Summer in London follows an order set long ago: the Chelsea Flower Show opens it in May, Wimbledon fills a fortnight from late June, and the Proms play at the Royal Albert Hall from mid July until the Last Night in September.
Art takes over in October, when Frieze London and Frieze Masters pitch their tents in The Regent's Park, galleries around Cork Street in Mayfair time their openings to match, and the BFI London Film Festival runs the same month. Winter is quieter, given over to theatre and to the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.

Frieze week in Mayfair
Frieze London and Frieze Masters occupy The Regent's Park for five days each October, and the galleries on and around Cork Street in Mayfair take part with shows of their own that week.

Centre Court fortnight
The Championships run for two weeks from late June at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon, south-west London, with the singles finals on the closing weekend.

Opera and ballet nights
The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet share the Royal Opera House on Bow Street in Covent Garden, in the middle of the West End theatre district.

Borough Market trades beside London Bridge station from Tuesday to Sunday, with produce stalls, bakers and cooked food a short walk from the Thames in Southwark.

Collectors, gallerists and film people overlap in mid October, while the stretch from May to July draws a sporting and gardening crowd that moves between Chelsea, Wimbledon and the Proms.
