The city
Dubai in brief.
When the heat breaks in November, Dubai's season begins. Design week, the closing tournament of golf's DP World Tour and the first outdoor evenings all arrive together, and the months to March are when the city lives outside, on terraces, beaches and the desert edge.
Spring brings the set pieces, the Dubai World Cup at Meydan on a Saturday in late March and Art Dubai at Madinat Jumeirah in April. After that the temperature climbs, the calendar thins, and what remains moves indoors, to places such as the warehouse galleries of Alserkal Avenue in Al Quoz.

Art Dubai and Alserkal
Art Dubai takes over Madinat Jumeirah each spring, and the galleries of Alserkal Avenue, a compound of converted warehouses in the Al Quoz industrial district, show modern and contemporary art.

The Dubai World Cup is run at Meydan Racecourse on a Saturday in late March, the high point of a racing season that runs through the cooler months.

Desert conservation reserve
The Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve protects 225 square kilometres of dunes inland from the city, where wildlife drives go looking for Arabian oryx.

Who the city draws
Between November and April the cooler weather brings designers, golf followers, racing owners and the art trade through the city in quick succession.
